The "self-care" theme seems to be trending right now, right? But it's nothing new - it just takes a little more focus and dedication than it used to with constant distractions and sources telling you to do this and to do that - be this and be that. At the end of the day, you choose to live life the way that is best for you and you don't need a lot of tools to get it done. Here are my top 5 non-negotiable self care rules to ensure you stay balanced (most days bc let's be honest life happens) and feeling your best self.

Ever hear that phrase, you are what you eat? Well the same applies to your thoughts...you are what you think. Think you can't do something? You probably won't. Think you can? You WILL find a way to get it done. Be mindful of your thoughts and even the things that come out of your mouth about yourself and others. Negative self talk is just as bad as negative talk about others. Like our parents taught us, "If you don't have anything nice to say [or think], don't say anything at all."  Your thoughts really are the foundation to everything else in your life.

Something not going your way? Ask yourself, "What can I learn from this?".

Instead of watching TV, I love watching inspirational or educational talks on Podcast or Youtube. My favorite is Oprah's Super Soul Conversations - because everything Oprah says is meaningful and so uplifting in many ways!

Meditate. Set your intentions. Say daily affirmations. Read scripture.

Nourish your body and mind as they go hand in hand. You only get one body and mind - treat it as your temple as it carries you through this life. We all have cravings and cheat days (and sometimes binge watch TV) - that's ok! - but on the daily, be kind to your body and your mind. Find things that inspire you and remind you of the good in the world. Eat foods that are made from REAL foods and feel good to your body - and taste good too, take vitamins and drink water. You will absolutely see and feel a difference in your life.

Negative energy transfer is real - eliminate the time you spend around people who complain, aren't motivated to vibrate higher and constantly have something negative to say. We all need to vent from time to time but there's a fine line between venting and gossiping. Venting is based in your feelings or how someone else made you feel, gossiping is putting the other person down, name-calling or engaging in conversation that puts more focus on them than you.

On the other hand, sometimes nothing is being said and we still constantly feel negative energy from people but can't put our finger on what it is and that's ok - it's not for you to figure out - just protect your energy and set your boundaries.

It's ok to set boundaries in all areas of your life - work, relationships, home - set them and stick with them.

This one can be tough. With so much going on, so many opportunities and living in a fast-paced world, it's so easy to get caught up in the daily grind especially when you're trying to build! I'm guilty of losing track of time and staying up way too late but I'm challenging myself to make the choice because it boils down to what's more important to you. Is it your health and rest or your work? Set boundaries for yourself to have working hours and resting hours - and on those days where you just don't feel like it - don't feel bad for taking a break.

Keep that body moving! Go for a walk, run, jog, go to the gym, take a class, do yoga - there are SO many ways to stay active. Hate working out? Find an accountability partner and do something you enjoy that isn't a traditional workout like dancing. Find something that you enjoy that keeps you active. You'll feel better on the inside and set yourself up to age gracefully.
